To decide Swamy's plea against HM, 2G case trial halted for 2 days

New Delhi, Feb 1, 2012, (PTI):

A Delhi court on Wednesday halted for two days the ongoing 2G spectrum case trial saying it requires "sufficient time" to consider Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy's plea to prosecute Union Home Minister P Chidambaram as well in the scam.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini, who is hearing the case on a day-to-day basis, said he needs time to consider Swamy's plea which is listed for order on February 4.

"As complaint case titled 'Dr Subramanian Swamy versus A Raja and others' is coming for order on February 4, 2012, and which requires sufficient time for consideration, this (the regular 2G) case would not be listed for February 2 and 3, 2012," the judge said.
The court had earlier reserved its order on Swamy's plea for February 4 after he concluded his arguments in support of his allegations against Chidambaram.

The court's order came on conclusion of the day's proceedings in which it recorded the statement of prosecution witness and Reliance Infrastructure Ltd's Senior Executive Vice President Ashish Tambawala.

The court also extended till February 6 the judicial custody of former Telecom Minister A Raja and former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, the two accused who are still in jail since their arrest by CBI on February 2 last year.

"Accordingly, put up for further prosecution evidence on February 6, 2012, and remand of both the accused (Raja and Siddharth Behura) who are in custody, is extended till then," the court said.

Swamy had earlier argued that the evidence, which he has brought on court's record, prima facie show that Chidambaram is equally culpable as Raja.
