7 killed, 20 hurt in road mishaps

Sindhagi/Haveri, Feb 1,2012, DHNS:

Seven people were killed and 20 injured in three separate accidents at Sindhagi and Haveri on Wednesday.

Sharanappa Mallappa Guggari, 45, and his wife Sharanamma, 35, were crushed under the wheels of a KSRTC bus at Sindhagi, police said. The couple from Yalagi of Surpur taluk in Yadgir district were returning home from Sindhagi when the accident took place.

In another accident reported from Martur on the outskirts of Sindhagi, Bapu Hosamani, 25, a resident of Rampur, died when the fertilser-laden tractor toppled. 

Two boys were killed and 20 persons were injured in another accident, involving a tractor on Belavalakoppa-Kyalakonda Road in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district.

Manikanta Shivappa Meese, 13 and Umeshagowda Manjanagowda Rayagowdra, 2, were travelling in a trailer when the vehicle turned turtle. Twenty others sustained injuries in the accident.

Two men died and another sustained injuries in another accident involving a tractor and a two-wheeler on Chikkerur-Yellapur Road in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district.

Motorcyclist Kantesha Basavaraja Harijana and Ratnavva, who was riding pillion, are the dead. Rudrappa Arikattera sustained injuries. All the three are from Mulakoppa of Shikaripur taluk in Shimoga district.

The tractor driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the two-wheeler. He abandoned the tractor and fled the spot, police said.
