Remand of 2 key accused in 13/7 case extended
Special Court for tackling terrorist cases, on Thursday, extended police remand of two key accused in the July 13, 2011 triple bomb blasts, till February 10, on grounds that the state Anti-Terrorist Squad still has to track down the origins of explosives as well as the outfit's future plans.
Last week, six months after the blasts, ATS besieged with criticisms, had claimed to have cracked the 13/7 explosions with the arrest of Naqi Ahmed Wasi Ahmed Shaikh and Nadeem Akhtar Ashfaq Shaikh, from Darbhanga district of Bihar. The duo were remanded to police custody for eight days ending on Thursday.
Early this week on Monday, ATS officers picked up a hawala operator Kanwar Nain Wazeer Chand Patriza, from Delhi, for allegedly supplying Rs 10 lakh to the fugitive and mastermind Yasin Bhatkal.
The money which was routed through hawala was used for executing the 13/ triple bomb blasts, police claimed in their plea for remand before the special court. Patriza was produced on Tuesday and was remanded to police custody till next Thursday.
On Thursday, while seeking a further extension of Naqi Shaikh and Nadeem Shaikh, the public prosecutor emphasized that both the accused used to make frequent trips not just to Bihar but also to Delhi.
“It is important that we find out as to why they were making trips to Delhi as the modus operandi which has come to light is that these operatives stay in a place so that they can study the topography and then carry out blasts.
“The two accused incidentally, had also stayed behind after carrying out the blasts and there is a possibility that they may have plans or know about future plans of the outfit known as Indian Mujahideen to carry out targets in the city here,” the public prosecutor said.
