For corruption, Lokayutka is the only doctor
150 trap cases in Mysore division in 12 years span; record disposals
Do you know how many cases have been registered by Lokayukta police for seeking favour (bribe), in over one decade in Mysore division. It’s 150.
To be precise, for the past 12 years (1999 to 2011) 150 trap cases have materialised against 168 reported in the division. Thanks to those brave souls who have been coming forward to fight corruption, lodging complaints against the graft.
According to the statistics available at the office of Lokayukta SP here, barring two years between 1999 and 2004, the number of complaints didn’t cross double figure. In the year 99, 17 complaints were lodged, where as in the following year only nine were reported.
In the following years- 11 in 2001, eight in 2002, six in 2003 and three in 2004 were lodged.
It seems from 2005 onwards, people became more aware of Lokayukta institution as an anti-graft ombudsman and came in good numbers to raise their voice.
As a result 13 cases were registered in the year 2005 followed by 18 in 2006, 15 in 2007, 17 in both 2008 and 2009, 19 in 2010 and 20 in 2011.
The year that passed by also recorded the highest of 20 cases in the decade. Among them not all are successful (trap not materialised (TNM)) in Lokayukta language).
Said Lokayukta SP S E D’Souza; in some cases the trap doesn’t materialise for the accused getting the scent of complaint. But still, not much of the plans go awry, if going by the statistics. In addition to this, fast disposal of cases in the courts has brought smiles on the faces of authorities concerned.
In a very short span of two years-85 cases were disposed off- 41 in 2010 and 44 in 2011.
Where as the total number of cases disposed in 10 years; from 1999 to 2009 were 94 just nine more than the cases dealt in just two years.
The Mysore division of Lokayukta includes not only Mysore, but Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts too.
When there is a heated debate over who will head the Lokayukta, there is no dearth of people who look at the very institute as a messiah to weed out the ill in corruption.
