Taxis to stop plying to BIA when toll starts

Bangalore, Feb 2, 2012, DHNS:

Taxis, maxi cabs and lorries will stop plying to and fro the Bangalore International Airport (BIA), opposing the move to collect toll on the route, the day the toll collection begins.

Collection of toll at the booth is likely to begin on February 15. Vehicles returning to the City will be charged double as there will be no toll while driving towards the airport.

K G Ravindra, member of Karnataka Tourist Motor Cab Association and vice president of Bangalore Taxi Owners’ Association, said the decision was arrived at, at a meeting on January 27. “We have written to the State government regarding the problems,” he said.

While private taxi companies like Meru run close to 2,000 vehicles towards the airport, the associations which may stop services have close to 25,000.
