Priyanka thumbs UP to Cong MLAs

Lucknow, Feb 3, 2012, DHNS

Poll attraction: Star campaigner asks people to rally behind Rahul

Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi said on Friday that the party’s MLAs were better than legislators from other political parties in Uttar Pradesh because they “did not kill nor grab government land during their tenure”.

“At least our MLAs did not get anyone killed or grabbed somebody’s land,” Priyanka said while addressing meetings in her brother Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi.

“Last time also I had requested you to ensure win for the Congress but you did not pay attention and the result was that you had to suffer for five years.
The time has come again and now you should support the Congress for all-round development of UP,” she said.

Showering praises her brother, she said he had been trying hard for the victory of the Congress in the state where the party has been out of power for 22 years. “My brother wants to change UP and develop the state...please help him.”

Later in an informal chat with newsmen, Priyanka, when asked who did she consider the biggest enemy of Rahul — Mulayam Singh Yadav or Mayawati — replied that anarchy, opportunistic politics and corruption were the real enemies of Uttar Pradesh. She also skirted a direct reply when asked about the impact of Team Anna on UP polls and simply quipped: “Ask the people of the state about it.”

Priyanka, who arrived here on Friday, took charge of the twin constituencies of Raebareli and Amethi and visited a number of villages.
