Congress questions Centre’s policy on 2G
A day after the SC cancelled 122 spectrum licences, the Congress on Friday insisted that the Centre should accept that the first-come-first-serve policy in allotting 2G licences was erroneous.
This is the first time that the Congress has questioned the Centre’s policy on the 2G issue.
“We accept the fact that today first-come-first-served policy has been condemned. This government must accept the responsibility and we do accept the responsibility of an error in the policy,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Singhvi, however, said: “When we are accepting the responsibility, then the BJP must also take responsibility because it was drafted by the then NDA government.”
Singhvi accused the BJP of levelling allegations against Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram—whose role as the erstwhile finance minister is under scanner—to serve "its narrow political interests. We want to remind the BJP that the Supreme Court had made its verdict on the deeds based on the policy formulated by their (NDA) government."
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Public Accounts Committee Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi on Friday said Communication minister Kapil Sibal's zero-loss theory has gone for a toss following the Supreme court verdict.
Joshi demanded that Sibal along with Chidambaram should be dropped from the cabinet for his “misleading” statement.
