Top Maoist’s bodyguard surrenders
The bodyguard of top Maoist Sabyasachi Panda surrendered to police on Friday in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The surrender highlighted the fissure in cadre’s ranks, the police said.
“Suraj, who used to be the bodyguard of the wanted Maoist, has provided vital insight into the militant outfit’s way of functioning,” said Ganjam SP Rajesh Patil.
Suraj, 23, who hails from Kutuniganda village in Gajapati district, is an expert in making ‘tiffin bombs’. He was allegedly involved in several violent activities in southern Odisha districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada. Patil said Suraj decided to surrender after being humiliated by certain senior members. Suraj told police that several women want to quit the outfit due to rise in “sexual exploitation”.
