5-member committee to probe into watershed dept works

Opposition members seek Lokayukta inquiry

Zilla Panchayat resolved to constitute a five member committee to probe into various development work undertaken by watershed department.

In a general meeting held under the presidentship of Zilla Panchayat President Suchitha Narendra, the issue of irregularities in the work was raised by the Opposition member Savitha Ramesh.

Kukkudige Ravindra said that the watershed department officials are not giving information on the development work. However, bills have been sanctioned for the work without carrying out the work. Zilla Panchayat CEO has visited the spot and inspected the work. But no action has been initiated against the officials. 

Members Savitha Ramesh and Ananth have demanded Lokayukta inquiry into the work taken up by the watershed department. When the ZP President directed Watershed department officials to provide details to the meeting, member Ravindra said that the officials give false information. “If they give information, we will walk out of the meeting.” Rekha Huliyappa Gowda urged the ZP President to constitute a committee comprising of elected representatives and officials to look into the work.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer  Range Gowda said “we inspected the work carried out by the watershed department based on the complaint by member Ravindra. There were anomalies in the work. There is a need to probe into the incident.”  Zilla Panchayat officials promised to provide complete details on the work within a week.

Drinking water
Member Kumar said that no drinking water project has been taken up in Lakkavalli for the last one year.

The opposition members entered the well of the house to discuss on drinking water projects and created commotion and chaos in the meeting.

Standing committee president Anandappa said “if the drinking water project was not taken up, then we will withdraw the agreement with the contractor.”
