Nothing political about Delhi visit: BSY
Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has said his visit to New Delhi on Friday was not “politically motivated”.
“It is only a rumour that I had been to Delhi to meet the central leaders. They are all busy campaigning for elections in the five northern states. I was in Delhi to consult senior advocate Ram Jethmalani on the cases against me,” Yeddyurappa told reporters here on Saturday.
Denying some legislators were collecting signatures in his support, Yeddyurappa said he was confident that the party leaders would give him a suitable post at an appropriate time.
Giving a new twist to Yeddyurappa’s whirlwind visit to the national capital, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State working president Ashok Jawali said in Dharwad that there was every chance of the BJP leader joining the NCP, as the former chief minister had actually met party chief Sharad Pawar and discussed possibilities of joining his party.
Speaking to mediapersons, Jawali said Yeddyurappa may quit the Bharatiya Janata Party if its central leadership did not fulfil his demands.
Along with Yeddyurappa, 10 other BJP MLAs, who have been deprived of suitable positions in their party, would also join the NCP, he claimed.
Jawali said leaders and legislators from the Congress, who felt neglected in the party, would also join the NCP. The party will organise a State-level convention in Hubli on March 3 to revive the party unit in the State and prepare for the next Assembly elections.
Union Agriculture Minister and NCP leader Sharad Pawar will address the rally.
The NCP will have its State headquarters in Hubli and the new office will be opened on March 3, he said.
