Two vehicle thieves held, 25 cars recovered
Two persons have been arrested for involvement in 49 cases of motor vehicle theft in the national capital, police said on Saturday. Police have also recovered 25 stolen vehicles from their possession.
Jagdish Chander, 52, who hails from Haryana, used to steal the vehicles, while Binder Singh from Rajasthan was the receiver of the stolen property, said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).
“Jagdish was caught red-handed on January 21 when he was trying to open a window of a car with the help of a steel ruler at Mansarover Garden,” he added.
At his instance, the police also arrested Binder. After sustained interrogation, Jagdish told police that most of the vehicles were sold with the help of forged documents.“The accused used to inform their customers that the vehicles were bought in an auction or from military officers. They also used to give fake affidavits and false reports from National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB),” Renganathan said.
Jagdish disclosed he had sold the stolen cars for Rs 45,000 to Rs 85,000, depending upon the condition of the vehicle.
“Altogether, 13 Maruti 800s, 10 Hyundai Santros, a Maruti Esteem and a Honda City car were recovered through him,” police said.
With Jagdish’s arrest, police said cases filed at Patel Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Rohini North, Vasant Kunj North and Ranjit Nagar police stations have been solved. Jagdish also told police that he used to commit these thefts to lead a lavish lifestyle and provide quality education to his children.
