Mother abandons newborn
She gives false address at hospital, leaves after delivery
The Delhi Police is in search of a woman who they say gave birth to a girl at the Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela, outer Delhi, and left the baby behind.
Gudiya had normal labour and delivery during the wee hours of Thursday, but has been absconding since Friday evening. “The hospital authorities immediately informed the police about the untraceable mother. She was admitted at around 2 am.on Thursday,” a police official said. He added that the child was born healthy.
The address provided by Gudiya, in A-Block, Holumbi, was found by police to be wrong.“We have questioned several people living in the neighbourhood, but have not received any clue. The matter is under investigation,” the official said. Dr Chander Kant, medical superintendent said hospital is mulling options if police fail to trace the baby’s parents.
“The girl was born healthy, so she does not need to be admitted at the hospital anymore. However, if the parents are not willing to come forward, we must think about the baby’s future,” Dr Kant said.
The hospital authorities are also planning to obtain a no objection certificate from the police to send the baby to an orphanage.
“We cannot keep the baby for long, so the last option will be to put her up for adoption,” Kant added.
In a similar incident last month, a newborn was found dead in the toilet of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Malviya Nagar on January 18. Investigation had revealed that the girl was born premature by four to ten weeks.
