One killed, 3 injured in scrap shop blast

Bangalore, Feb 4, 2012, DHNS:

An unidentified person was killed and three others sustained injuries in an explosion at a scrap shop in Hulimavu village on Saturday. Details of the dead are yet to be ascertained.

The injured Suresh, Selvi and Saravan are recovering at a hospital here. According to the police, a man brought used detonator sticks to the shop owned by Balakrishna.

Selvi asked him to remove the copper wire from the sticks. He began the task by hammering the sticks. Within minutes, there was an explosion, added the police.

He was killed on the spot and Saravan, Selvi and Suresh who were near the victim, sustained injuries.

Detonator sticks are used to blast rocks and boulders in and around Hennur Bande and Anekal areas. These sticks are collected and sold at scrap shops for Rs 100, said the police.
Forensic experts visited the spot and collected samples for investigation.
