No violation, claims firm

Bangalore, Feb 5, 2012, DHNS:

Maruthi Power Private Limited, the company which is setting up mini-hydel projects in Kagneri and Kenchankumari reserve forests, has rubbished the reports submitted by the officials of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to the High Court, stating that it has not violated any norms.

In a press release,  Maruthi power company has claimed that the two projects are implemented as per the guidelines and procedures laid down by by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, which are competent authorities.

The company has also stated that there is no disturbance caused to the environment and wildlife in the surrounding areas, nor the area of project is part of any wildlife sanctuary or national park.
