3 killed in separate accidents in Capital

New Delhi, February 5 2012, DHNS:

Three persons were killed in three different road accidents in the national capital, police said on Sunday.

In the first case, an unidentified man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near India Gate during the early hours of Sunday.

“The man, in his mid-thirties, was hit by an unidentified vehicle, which was speeding on Shahjahan Road around 12.55 am. The driver fled the spot after the accident,” a police official said.

After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, but the victim died before he could be taken to a hospital.

“His body was later sent to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for post-mortem. It will be kept there for next 72 hours for his family members to identify him,” the official added.

A case has been registered with Tilak Marg police station against unknown persons. “A crime and forensic team has also visited the spot,” the official added.

Motorcyclist killed

In another accident, a 32-year-old bike rider died when his vehicle was hit in Kotla Mubarakpur area of south Delhi on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Manbir Singh Pundir, a resident of New Ashok Nagar.

“A call at the police contol room around 8 am reported that an accident victim was lying unconscious on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) flyover in front of Kidwai Nagar East,” another police official said. 

The police rushed Manbir to AIIMS Trauma Center, where he was declared brought dead. A case has been registered against unknown person at Kotla Mubarakpur police station.

Hit from behind

The third accident was reported from Delhi Cantonment area of south west Delhi on Saturday evening.

Gulshan, 18, was killed when a private bus hit his bike from behind near Rao Tula Ram Marg at around 7 pm. He was a resident of Moti Bagh in south Delhi.

“Gulshan was taken immediately to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He had sustained head injuries,” another police official said.

The police have arrested the bus driver, Purbhat. He faces charges of causing death by rash and negligent driving.

According to his father Durgesh, Gulshan was returning home when he met with accident.
