Noida banks ease customers’ worries

Noida, February 5 2012, PTI:

Directed by the Supreme Court to move out of residential areas in Noida, the affected banks on Sunday assured customers that their assets and accounts will remain safe.

Representatives of banks operating from residential areas on Sunday held a meeting and told customers that they will not face any difficulty due to shifting of the branches.

“The branches will ensure smooth functioning of account and lockers. However, inconvenience caused to customers is deeply regretted,” Syndicate Bank manager Arun Kumar said on behalf of all the banks.

At least 104 bank branches, which have been operating in Noida from residential areas for decades, have been asked to shift to other locations.

Court order triggers panic

The order triggered panic among customers as they are not sure about the safety and security of their bank assets and belongings kept in lockers.

The RBI, taking note of the complaints, had directed the banks to ensure safety of assets of account-holders and locker owners.

Following the apex court's order, the Noida Authority started sealing these banks on February 1.

However, on February 4, the authority allowed the banks to work after the court gave six weeks to banks to shift their offices.
