Explosives seized in Chintamani

Chintamani, Feb 6, 2012, DHNS:

Police seized large amounts of explosives and arrested a person from Andhra Pradesh with charges of transporting dangerous explosives on Monday near Maadikere Cross on the outskirts of Chintamani.

The person arrested is identified as Altaf from Madanapalli. Tipped off, a team was formed under the leadership of Assistant Superintendent Ramesh Banoth, Superintendent of police Suryaprakash and Girish traced Altaf and arrested him.

Police seized 193 gelatin sticks, 50 kg worth ammonium nitrate, filled in three bags, 100 kg gun powder, 800 electric and other explosives were seized.

“We got information that a consignment of explosives is being transported from Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh to Santekallahalli in Chintamani. Reason behind transportation of such large amount of explosives is not known yet. We will be able to get the proper information on reasons, only after the investigation,” said ASP Ramesh Banoth.
