UP CM says Congress anti-development
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati on Tuesday slammed the Congress-led UPA government for “creating obstacles in the development” of the state by not releasing the funds sought by her regime for various welfare and developmental projects.
Addressing election rallies at Deoria and Azamgarh districts, Mayawati alleged that the Centre did not provide the state any financial help but her government, with its limited resources, implemented various welfare measures for the benefit of every section of society.
She said the focus of her regime has been the poor, Dalits and other weaker sections of society. The chief minister lashed out at the “misleading” claims and promises made by her political rivals in their election manifestos.
She blamed the Congress for the ills of the state. Alleging that during its 40-year-long regime in the state, the party did not do anything for the development of the state as a result of which it lagged behind and the people had to migrate to other states in search of employment.
Mayawati contested Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s statement that he had great respect for the BSP founder Kanshiram and said Congress leaders did not declare national mourning on his death.
“Rahul’s remark is a humiliation of Kanshiram,” she said.
She also slammed the Election Commission for ordering draping of the statues of elephants and herself and said the party workers and Dalits were angry with the order and would reflect their anger by voting.
A CD of Mayawati’s Gorakhpur rally on Monday, where she reportedly said that opposition parties were using their pet dogs to spoil her rally will be examined, the state Chief Electoral Officer said on Tuesday.
The CD of the speech will be sent to the Election Commission after examination, CEO Umesh Sinha told reporters .
He said the District Magistrates send information related to all important things to the EC.
