Mazy’s Muddle: Division and the family
Hi! I am Mazy, and in case you have a problem remembering me just think of Lazy...I am the chap who is NOT lazy!
You know, the problem with trying to remember is that there are so many ways to remember that you forget which method to use and when! Do you agree? “Of course not!” says Mona. “If you pay attention in class, you can remember anything!” But paying attention in class is so difficult – there is just so much to hear, talk about, and do in class!
“Mazy, have you finished your long division sums?” asked our Math teacher one day when she assumed I was dreaming. Actually, I’d finished my homework and was thinking of the smart trick I’d learnt to do it fast.
If you usually forget which to do first in long division – Multiply? Divide? Bring down?
Subtract? then this trick is for you: Just remember this order: Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother – divide first, then multiply, then subtract and finally bring down the next digit in the dividend.
Now that I have shared this nimonick, sorry, mnemonic (does anyone know how to remember spellings?), can you take a wild guess and try what this mnemonic could be for? Raja Requires Walnut Upma! Go ahead, just try!
Out of the maze: This is a mnemonic to remember how to learn well: Read, Remember, Write, Use! So, go ahead and enjoy using what you read.
