Maya targets Gandhi family
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the “Gandhi family” saying that had the “family” undertaken development in the state on its own turf, its members would not have had to “beg for votes”.
“If the Gandhi family had taken steps for the development of the region, its members would not have had to criss-cross every nook and corner and beg for votes from the people nor would they had to resort to drama for seeking the votes,” Mayawati said while addressing an election meeting at Sultanpur, about 135 kilometers from here.
The BSP supremo’s reference, apparently, was to the Congress’ star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi, who has been touring almost every village in Amethi and Raebareli seeking votes for party candidates.
Taking the Congress, especially the “Nehru-Gandhi family” head on, Mayawati held it responsible for the backwardness of Sultanpur and the nearby regions saying that the
“Gandhi family” never took any interest in reviving the sick industries at Jagadishpur industrial belt.
“We had sought a package of Rs 5,000 crore to revive the sick industries in Jagadishpur but the UPA government refused,” she said.
Mayawati said that during her four and half year stint, she took steps for the welfare of all sections of the society.
