Students stage snap protest

Arsikere, Feb 10, 2012, DHNS:

Youth stop buses; traffic comes to a standstill in Arsikere

Students and members of various organisations protested against KSRTC Vegadoot buses for disallowing school and college-goers to use the facility here on Friday.

The flash protest started at 8.30 am, following a group of students being stopped from boarding the bus. Students  stopped buses from leaving the bus stand. Traffic was disrupted with vehicles being stranded up to a kilometre on either side of the road.

The protestors alleged that the drivers and conductors refuse to allow students who possess proper pass, to board the bus. “How do we even reach our schools and colleges if this is the mindset?” they questioned.

They dispersed from the spot only after KSRTC depot manager Venkatesh promised them that this would not be repeated. DySP J K Rashmi brokered peace after bringing both the protestors and the authorities concerned across the table.
