Mother abandons newborn
Baby thrown out of window for being a girl
Upset over giving birth to another girl child, a woman threw her newborn out of an ambulance on the way home from hospital.
The incident was reported at Talera village under Aspur police station. The baby survived and was rushed to a health centre by the same ambulance which had dropped the mother home. The baby was later handed over to her father.
Manju delivered the baby girl at the Sabla Primary Health Centre on Monday evening. “Under the new Jananai Shishu Suraksha Yojana, an ambulance was arranged to drop her home, 48 hours after delivery," a police official said.
The ambulance attendant, Shilendra Singh, who had dropped the woman, told police that when Manju got into the vehicle, she was carrying a bundle of clothes in her hands. When asked about the baby, she said the newborn had died after delivery. “Actually, she had wrapped the infant inside the bundle of clothes," Singh said.
He added that she threw the bundle of clothes out of the window when the ambulance left the health centre. When asked about it she said the clothes were useless and old.
When the ambulance was returning after dropping her home, villagers informed attendants that a baby girl was lying among the bushes near the road leading to the primary health centre, Singh told police.
The attendants picked her and brought her to the health centre where doctors identified her as Manju’s newborn daughter. Later police were informed and they brought Manju’s husband, Dholu to the health centre and handed over the baby to him.
