Appointment of lecturers: HC notice to government, KPSC
Bangalore, Aug 31, dhns:

The High Court has ordered notice to the State government and Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) in connection with the appointment of 2,555 lecturers to first grade colleges.

Hearing a petition by Chandrappa and others, the division bench comprising  Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V G Sabhahit said that any appointment based on the final notification is subject to the outcome of the writ petition.

It could be recalled that on August 19, 2009, the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of 2,555 lecturers to first grade colleges upholding the selection of candidates by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

The applicants had questioned the appointment of some of the candidates who have obtained degrees from Universities like Alagappa University, Annamalai University, Bharathidasan University, Madurai Kamaraj University and other distance education institutes. They had stated that these Universities do not have approval from Distance Education Council (DEC). The bench has ordered notice to the universities also.
