Flea for all seasons

Feb 14,2012, DHNS:

‘BOMBAT BAZAAR’

Little did Bangaloreans, who gathered on a Sunday afternoon for yet another flea market, know that the sun will return to being its generous self and spread a sunny layer around.

Colourful: Visitors at the market. The first thing that struck a visitor was perhaps the lack of shade and a visit in the evening could possibly unleash the shopping addict better. The line-up was colourful with the 70 odd stalls full of trinkets to catch your attention.

Called Bombat Bazaar, this was a first time venture that combined the concept of a flea market with that of evening entertainment and a mocktail station to top it all. Live music in the form of DJs playing all day long and a magician gallivanting with his tricks were due for the evening.

As for the flea, there were the regulars — City-based Chumbak with its Indianised kitsch designs, Iktara with its funky notebooks and Kumbhakaran bean bags, 22.2 Accessories with its bags in Indian fabric and crafted ‘chappals’ and Mojo with their suave jackets for all sizes.

Among the newer ones in the arena were ‘Pigtails & Ponies’ with a bunch of hair accessories for kids and adults, ‘Couture Dahlin’ with their silk bags and ‘Cup a Cake’ with printed tempting cupcakes.

There was also some terracotta diyas and art on display along with posters and a range of morphed celebrity portraits. The added attractions of this flea were the food counters with cupcakes and some freshly concocted mocktails so you could sip on a Mojito that would keep from making you heady while you shop in the heat.

The day-long affair lasted until 10.30 pm and gave all those looking for kitsch decor a place to head to.

Besides decor and food, the flea was high on footwear and bags across brands, printed and embellished ones. Despite the sunshine, it was worth a stopover for those otherwise hard to find trinkets.
