New Delhi, Feb 19, 2012, DHNS

A 26-year-old real estate businessman was killed when his Lamborghini car rammed into a railing on the bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor in the Greater Kailash area of south east Delhi early on Sunday morning, police said.

The mangled remains of the Lamborghini. PTIAnukul Rishi, a resident of Sainik Farm, was trying to overtake a truck at Josip Broz Tito Marg in Panchsheel Enclave when the incident occurred around 5:15 am, said additional deputy commissioner of police (south east) Meghna Yadav.

He also hit a cyclist, who received critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre.

“A passerby had informed us about the mishap. When we reached the spot, Anukul and a cyclist were seen lying unconscious and injured. They were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where the doctors declared Anukul brought dead,” another police official added.

The cyclist has been identified as Kisan, 45, a resident of nearby Khanpur village. He has received severe head injuries, but his condition is said to be out of danger.

The police said the initial investigation reveals that Anukul, “apparently, lost control of the vehicle when he tried to overtake the truck and was caught unawares by the cyclist in front,” the official said. There were no eyewitnesses to confirm the sequence of events.

The Lamborghini car then crashed into the railing of a bus stop on the 5.8-km BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and  Moolchand. The accident also left around 60 to 70 metres of the railing completely damaged.

The official said the car’s airbags were found deployed, but Anukul was not wearing a seat belt. “It is too early to say whether the deceased was driving under the influence of alcohol or not,” the official added.

Anukul’s father Prem is also a real estate businessman.
