Cong demands action against scribe’s killers
The Congress on Monday said the killings of a journalist and his family in Madhya Pradesh was a ''terrible incident''. The party said the killers must be punished immediately.
“It is distressing to hear of such a terrible incident. Not only the journalist but his entire family was murdered,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
“I certainly don’t want to make a political comment but the word that comes to mind is aaj ka gundaraj (the rule of thugs),” said Singhvi. The BJP is the ruling government in Madhya Pradesh.
Senior journalist Chandrika Rai, 42, his wife Durga, 39, son Jalaj, 20, and daughter Nisha, 17, were killed at their house last week in Umaria, 500 km from Bhopal. The bodies were dumped in the four rooms of the house.
“How is it possible that mafia members can roam around freely and commit such a crime, of all the people, against a journalist and his family members? I think it needs to be condemned as the most reprehensible thing,” Singhvi said.
He said the guilty should be punished immediately. “Unless the state government launches a probe and get concrete results soon, it will be an unpardonable thing,” Singhvi added.
MP police said the Special Task Force (STF) will investigate the case. Journalists have also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
