Last Updated 23 February 2012, 18:12 IST

Despite the Supreme Court order that nutrition food supplied to women and children by the Women and Child Welfare Department has to be supplied by the Stree Shakti Groups only, in the district the food is being supplied by a Labour Organisation headed by a political leader, said Zilla Panchayat Member Sarita Poonacha.

Addressing the general body meeting on Thursday, she brought this issue to light and produced documents to prove the same.

“The main intention of handing over the responsibility of supplying food to Stree Shakti was to stop leakage of funds. However, in the district this order has been violated,” she said adding that during S N Rajarao’s tenure as the ZP President the contract of supplying food was given to Cauvery Karmika Sanghatane, which is receiving Rs 40 lakh per month from the Government. In this organisation 22 workers are being given Rs 2,500 as honorarium while the rests of the amount is gobbled by persons unknown.

She questioned as to why the Apex Court order is not implemented in the district while there has been no deviation from the order elsewhere in the State.

She said that the Labour Organisation was formed in 2010 at Kudlur near Kushalnagar by none other than S N Rajarao himself when he was the ZP Social Justice Standing Committee president. Poonacha demanded inquiry on how a political leader became president of this organisation.

“The organisation accounts have not been audited so far. Registration has not been renewed and not even one meeting of the members has been held,” she said.
However, countering this, Rajarao said that all allegations are baseless and no funds have been misused.

ZP President Ravi Kushalappa asked the Social Justice Standing Committee to hold inquiry into the same.

Send officials out

Member Band Ganapathi said that the plight of BCM Hostels in Kudige and Kushalnagar are in pathetic state and this was confirmed during the surprise visit of ZP Vice-President H M Kaveri recently.

Responding to the same, Department official Puttaraju said that things will not be all right if articles are splashed on the newspapers.

This attitude of the official earned him wrath of the members who unanimously demanded the house to send the official out.

They said that the newspapers have done their duty of exposing what is wrong. They took the official to task for having spoken to the house in rude tone.

After prolonged episode of altercations between the members and even between ZP President and Vice-President  finally the official was made to apologise.

Meeting even today

The general body meet will be continued even on Friday as the house could not complete the agenda till Thursday evening because series of episodes of pandemonium. The meet will start at 11 am on Friday.
