No place for Rajpal, Halappa in Oly list

New Delhi, Feb 27,2012, DHNS:

A day after the team booked its berth for the Olympics, Hockey India (HI) announced a list of  48 probables for the London Games. The list does not include former India captain Rajpal Singh and the experienced Arjun Halappa.

Both Rajpal and Halappa were dropped from the squad for the qualifier, which India won Sunday.

Hockey India selectors Col Balbir Singh, B P Govinda and Syed Ali along with government observers Harbinder Singh and Dilip Tirkey as well as chief coach Michael Nobbs picked the core group of probables.

A series of coaching camps will now commence for the probables at SAI Centre, Bangalore, from March 5.

The team will also be playing in various tournaments overseas in the run-up to the Olympics. India has received invitations for two four-nation tournaments, at Lahore and Santandar, Spain. India could also participate in the Olympic test events in London and the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup at Ipoh, Malaysia.

The probables:

Goalkeepers: Bharat Chetri, P R Sreejesh, Naveen Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Nanak Singh.

Defenders: Sandeep Singh, V R Raghunath, Rupinder Singh, Manjit Kullu, Gurjinder Singh,Harbir Singh, Amit Rohidas, Rahul Shilpkar

Midfielders: Ignace Tirkey, Kothajit Singh, Sardar Singh, Birendra Lakra, Manpreet Singh,Vikas Sharma, Gurbaj Singh, V S Vinaya, Bharat, Pardeep Mor, S K Uthappa.
Forwards: Yuvraj Walmiki, Tushar Khandker, Shivendra Singh, Danish Mujtaba,Sarvanjit Singh, SV Sunil, Gurvinder Singh Chandi, Pradhan Sommanna, Roshan Minz, Malak Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, Ramandeep Singh, NithinTimmaiah, Dharamvir Singh, Mandip Antil, MB Aiyappa, Gurmail Singh, Arjun Antil, Damandeep Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Mandip Singh, M G Poonacha.
