Canara Bank, Bank of India branches looted
Cocking a snook at the Bihar police, five armed miscreants looted Rs 20 lakh from the Parev branch of Canara Bank here on Monday.
The incident took place in broad-daylight at Bihta, some 45 kilometres from the State Capital.
According to eyewitnesses, five dacoits barged into Canara Bank, held all the employees and customers hostage at gunpoint, and decamped with the loot. When the cashier of the bank made an unsuccessful attempt to raise an alarm, he was badly thrashed and injured.
Strangely enough, all the five miscreants escaped with Rs 20 lakh on three motorcycles unchallenged, even though the top officials often claim a police party was patrolling the streets round the clock. Sources said the dacoits crossed Koelwar bridge (over Sone river), which connects Patna with Ara, and fled towards Bhojpur area.
In another incident, unidentified miscreants broke open the lock of the Bank of India, Muzaffarpur branch, and escaped with Rs 16 lakh kept in the bank chest. A complaint has been lodged in this connection. However, the police have failed to make any breakthrough in the case.
