Protest over delay in Lokayukta appointment
Members of Bhrashtachara Nirmulana Samithi, an anti-corruption organisation, will stage a protest on February 28, against the delay in appointment of the Lokayukta.
V Balasubramanian, former chairperson of the Task Force for Recovery of Public Land and Its Protection, said the post has remained vacant for the past six months though the State has been mired in corruption.
He alleged that the government has remained indifferent to the report given by former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde on illegal mining and the A T Ramaswamy Committee report on land grabbing. He said the detailed status report on land scams across the State, submitted by the task force chaired by him has also not been acted upon.
The members also alleged that out of the 18 task forces in the State, the only one dealing with land recovery and protection has been dissolved.
Former minister B T Lalita Naik, Master Hirannayya and A T Ramaswamy among others are expected to take part in the protest, which will be staged at Town Hall at 11 am.
