Coach clueless about Pakistan's failure in ODIs and T20 games
Pakistan's interim coach Mohsin Khan today said that he has no clue as to what went wrong in the just-concluded limited overs series, especially after the team's 3-0 whitewash over England in the preceding Test rubber in the UAE.
After the commanding performance in the Test series, Pakistan were outclassed 0-4 and 1-2 in the ODI and Twenty20 series by England.
"I really have no clue. I don't know how and why we went so wrong because the same team had fought hard and won the Test series in convincing fashion," Mohsin told reporters at the airport here after returning from UAE.
The former Test batsman rubbished talks of groupings or problems within the team.
"We just went off our winning track and nothing worked for us. Our planning didn't work for the one-day games. I was as surprised as everyone else at the way we performed in the limited over series because this same team had beaten England in the Tests," Mohsin said.
He, however, made it clear that batting was not an easy task on the low and slow pitches in the UAE.
"The general impression is that batting is easy on these pitches but that is not the case. The pitches were not ideal for batting. And if you look at the records of the series most of the batsmen struggled with a few exceptions," Mohsin said.
About his own future as coach of the team, Mohsin made it clear that he was ready to serve Pakistan cricket in any capacity but not at the cost of his dignity and honour.
"I don't want to be just given a assignment if they want a new coach. In whatever capacity I am asked to serve Pakistan cricket I am ready to do it but only with dignity," he said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already indicated that it would be appointing Australian Dav Whatmore in place of Mohsin for the upcoming Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
Whatmore is expected to reach Lahore tomorrow to sign his agreement with the PCB.
