<p>Flora worth lakhs of rupees have been gutted in repeated fire accidents during the last one week in and around BEML Nagar.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The accidents occurred around the Officers’ Quarters, BEML Nursery, Quarters Type-1 and Murugan Hills.<br /><br />In most cases the fires were results of pranks by miscreants. Neem and wild berry trees were gutted in most numbers. Teak saplings planted on the premises of the Officers’ Quarters were also gutted. <br /><br />The fire that started behind the Nursery was prevented from spreading into the Nursery and destroying a variety of plants and saplings kept there. Staff of the fire brigade set fire to dry leaves in the area on Saturday, to prevent further damage by fire.<br /><br />The greenery behind the H and P division was also destroyed in fire. As a result, the cattle and even wild animals like deer that frequented the area to graze and drink water are affected.<br /><br />The area around BEML is full of greenery during rain and winter. Just as summer sets in, however, the grass on the plains starts drying. A small spark set by miscreants is enough to turn the entire dry plains into ashes.<br /><br />Although the fire brigade staff rush to the spot, mostly the loss would already be high.<br /></p>
