Alemao says Kamat led to Cong defeat

Last Updated 13 March 2012, 17:59 IST

Former minister Churchill Alemao refuses to buy the argument that he was partly responsible for the stinging defeat the Congress suffered in the Goa election.

Joining the blame-game post mortem on at the Congress House, Alemao said former chief minister Digmbar Kamat had made “a complete mess” of governance sending out the wrong signals to the public.

Under Kamat “Goa’s forests have been ruined by mining and the regional plan and medium of instruction issues were totally mishandled,” Alemao told Deccan Herald. “And he is using the excuse of family raj to blame us for the defeat.”

Kamat and PCC chief Subhash Shirodkar said on Monday that allowing a few political families to corner so many tickets had gone against the Congress.

Alemao said the insinuation that the Goan people had “targeted” his family was deeply upsetting.

Kamat won with a huge majority from Margao but Shirodkar was shown the door.
Alemao said he was waiting to see what the Congress has in mind for the future of the party in Goa before he makes his next move.
