<p>Udupi district has won an award in the ‘innovation in measurement’ category of the Manav Vikas India Human Development awards. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The awards are presented by the Planning Commission, along with the United Nations Development Programme, recognising excellence in the preparation of District Human Development Reports.<br /><br />“We have been awarded for preparing a report on Gram Panchayats in our district with regard to achievements and bottlenecks in sectors such as education, health and human development. <br /><br />“The district is progressing, but a lot needs to be done,” said Hemalata, former Deputy Commissioner of Udupi. <br /><br />Bijapur district was a finalist in the award category for Participatory Process of Preparation.<br />Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development, was among those present at the awards function in the city on Wednesday.<br /><br />Around 44 districts across eight states - Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal - had released their reports and were considered for the awards. <br /><br />Twelve experts formed a technical review group for the selection of states for the four categories of awards.</p>
