A big cultural extravaganza
‘UDBHAV’
The M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) recently hosted the 13th annual VTU cultural youth festival Udbhav 12 at the MSR campus. Preparations for this four-day mega cultural extravaganza began almost six months ago under the guidance of the cultural committee of the college.
The VTU fest is a prestigious cultural festival for over 200 colleges, affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University. The events for this year’s edition covered all five departments, namely literary, fine arts, theatre, music and dance with a total of 34 events that spanned over the four days of this festive bonanza. With prize money amounting to over six lakh rupees, Udbhav was truly spectacular.
The inauguration of the fest was carried out in the presence of two popular artistes — ‘Hat-trick-Hero’ Shivarajkumar and danseuse Vyjyanthi Kashi. The events schedule was a tightly packed and exhausting one on all four days of the fest and this meant that every evening of the fest was a time set out for relaxing the creative minds and enriching their exhausted bodies.
Udbhav 12 presented ‘Cultural Evenings’ for the first time. These were specific evenings meant to lighten up and relax the teams to prepare them for the following day’s hectic schedule of events. These cultural evenings had everything from a glittering and glamorous fashion show by the students to the gentle melodies of the popular fusion band “Srishti” to a performance by none other than Raghu Dixit.
Raghu Dixit set the stage on fire on the second last evening of the fest by enthralling the crowds with some of his hit numbers like Khidki and “Mahadeswara”. Before the maestro came on stage, ‘Jekkyl And Hyde’, MSRIT’s rock band, took the stage and had everyone headbanging.
The organisation of the fest was carried out with precision from having volunteer meets at 1 am to starting event preparations again at 5 am and ensuring a clean and fair race to the top.
“Udbhav 12 is very close to our hearts. Being MSRIT’s first inter-college cultural festival, to see Udbhav become such a big success and see the campus become some other place, true to its theme, is a dream come true for all of us here at MSRIT. Udbhav 12 proved to be an enthralling, enriching and entertaining Experience,” said one of the organisers.
