Forest fire doused

The forest fire, which was noticed at Rajiv Gandhi National Park, Nagarahole, was contained on Tuesday and no fire was noticed on Wednesday.

The flora and fauna in the region was reduced to ashes with the fire raging for quite a while.

With tireless efforts by members of Karmadu Vijaya Grameena Yuvaka Sangha, SKDRDP and Budakattu Sanghatane, officials from forest department were able to douse the fire completely.

More than 200 volunteers were part of the team, which doused the fire. Even women from villages were seen carrying water in pots to douse the fire.

In Siddapura

A wild elephant trampled a woman to death while she was picking coffee beans at an estate in Siddapura.

According to police, the victim is Khadija (38), wife of Abdul. The elephant lifted Khadija and threw her in the air. Though she was rushed to the hospital, she breathed her last at the hospital. ACF Alexander, RFO Gopal, and others visited the spot. The forest department paid a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the family.
