An incident of MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda’s wife obtaining a General Power of Attorney from owner of grant land, has come to light in Srirangapatna taluk.

The land measuring 2.20 acre was granted to Nanjamma, who belongs to Scheduled Caste community, in 1996-97.

The land, which is identified as survey number 286 near Taripura in Hebbala Hundi was granted to Nanjamma, of Rammanahalli in Mysore taluk.

A GPA was later executed in the name of Sumathi, C/O A B Ramesha on October 21, 2011. Nanjamma had obtained cultivation slip by paying fees of Rs 610 about 13 years ago. However, the GPA is to be considered invalid considering it’s against the law.

Tahsildar Arul Kumar has said the GPA stands null and void since the ‘grant land cannot be transfered or sold, nor can a GPA be executed against this’ without the original recipient  holding it for 15 years.

It is important to know this land was granted to Nanjamma, during the time of MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda’s mother Vijayalakshmi Bandisiddegowda’s time as legislator in 1996-97.

Records say Sumathi has obtained GPA on this by paying Rs 7,24,000 to Nanjamma, though the land is valued at more than Rs 50 lakh in the current days.

One of the sons of Nanjamma, Chikkaiah has raised some issues pertaining to the said land, as he was not happy with the share of money he got from his mother after Nanjamma received the money post-GPA. Chikkaiah is also anticipating on moving the courts over the matter.

MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda admitted the fact that Sumathi had obtained GPA for the land. “We have paid Nanjamma upfront and this was done after obtaining the concurrance of all her children.

And we think the rule that grant land cannot be sold or transferred cannot be applied to obtaining GPA for it,” he said.
