Indian Premier League (IPL) is back. People are eagerly looking forward to chilling out at the IPL after-match parties at ITC Gardenia. The last two years saw people get passes to the after parties by hook or crook. The cops had a tough time controlling the crowd and making sure the situation didn’t get violent.

All said and done, the organisers are keen on making sure that the parties, this year, get bigger and better. The after-match parties, titled ‘Signature After-Match Parties,’ will feature young but popular designers from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and from across five cities in India. There will be 20 parties in all and every designer will showcase his or her signature collection which has been designed and woven around the theme ‘global viewpoint of international style’. “We have roped in the best of designers and models. Even the hair and make-up artists are among the best in the country. The choreography, make-up and the overall look of the models are going to be something that Bangalore’s fashionistas haven’t seen before. We’re working to make sure that every party is exclusive and exciting,” informs Prasad Bidapa, creative head of IPL fashion shows across the country. He adds, “In keeping with the global feel to the whole party, we have been trying to bring in a designer from Pakistan.”

Among the designers from Sri Lanka are Dimuthu, Sonali, Ajai Vir Singh and Fahad Sharieff. Then there’s Rizvan Beyg from Pakistan and Bibi Russel from Bangladesh. India too has its fair share of designers such as Manoviraj, Nam G and Nimritha Lalwani from Bangalore; Rehane from Chennai; Samanth Chauhan and Aslam Khan from Delhi; Masaba, Arjun Agarwal and Asif Shah from Mumbai; and Shravan from Hyderabad. The models have been hand-picked for the parties. There’s Lakshmi Rana and Pratik Kalhara from Delhi; Carol Gracia and Bruna Abdullah from Mumbai; the Bangalore models are Mitali Rannorey, Diana Erappa, Priya Nayak, Rakesh Chengappa and Arry Dabas. The hair and make- up are by Bharat, Dorris Godambe, Sid Hiremath and Salman Aga. The designers and the models are thrilled to be a part of the IPL. Most of the designers are showcasing their Spring-Summer collection that’s steeped in party wear.

Manoviraj Khosla says his collection has a lot of digital prints and printed dresses. “I’ve played around with a lot of  blue, green, yellow and purple. These are all summer colours and the dresses can be worn both as day wear and to a party. I will be travelling across the country with my collection,” says Manoviraj. Rehane, a young designer from Chennai says that her collection titled, ‘Marks of Love’ showcases resort wear.

“It’s not the usual resort wear that’s sublime in character. My collection is high on glamour and is meant for a total beach person. It’s for a woman with poise, confidence and money, of course,” says Rehane.

It’s prestigious, say the models who have been chosen for the IPL fashion show. Priya Nayak says, “These events are a confluence of cricket and fashion. I am excited to walk the ramp for some of the ace designers from across the country.”  Mitali Rannorey, another well-known model, thinks IPL after parties are where sport and fashion come together and she wouldn’t want to miss it for anything. “In addition to getting to wear some great clothes, I can see my favourite cricketers from RCB – Chris Gayle and Daniel Vettori. It’s going to be fun and it feels great to be part of something  this big,” she sums up.
