Lone borewell in village gives saline water

With absolutely no alternative source for water, residents of Valagere village in Madanahalli gram panchayat limits in the taluk have to tread three to four kilometres to fetch water from private borewells.

Although there is a lone borewell in the village, the people have stopped using it as it gives only saline water.

Even new  borewell sunk on the outskirts of the  village has not been useful, as the authorities concerned have not yet fixed the pump. The residents want the grama panchayat to fix the motor pump soon.

The village comprising about 1,300 people has been deprived of water since many months.

Some of the private borewells  that catered to the needs of the people, are also not functioning now, thanks to depleting water table, said Krishnegowda. A borewell in his house was the other source that the residents relied on for water till a few days ago.

According to Bairareddy and Narayanaswamy, residents of the village, they cannot use the water from the lone borewell in the taluk, as the water saline. “We cannot even cook using that water. We have to go to four kilometre to get water for our cattle too,” they added.

Upset over apathy of the officers, the residents now travel up to Chettivaripalli to fetch water. But, even there the water is not sufficient, say the residents.

The residents want the authorities concerned to sink another borewell soon or provide them with alternative source.
