Beat the heat
Last Updated 09 April 2012, 19:43 IST

Denuded hillocks, dried up wells and tanks, coupled with rising temperature have made summer unbearable for residents at Bagepalli.

Global warming seems to have had its effect with 40 deg celsius being recorded in the taluk. Also, variation in temperature has been registered in the lower regions of Bagepalli, this summer.
The plight of cattle that are unable to find water sources is indescribable. The summer heat is accentuated by the presence of hillocks and lack of vegetation.
Depleting water level
To make the situation worse, the groundwater table in the region has been depleting at a fast pace. It is tough to get water even after drilling the borewell at 800 to 1,000 ft. In addition to this people in the taluk also have to fight out fluoride problem.
The long-awaited permanent irrigation scheme that promises water to the arid districts in the State still remains a distant dream. Due to lack of green cover, vendors are forced to sell their goods in the scorching heat.

Consumption of watermelons, butter milk and water seem the best way to beat the heat.
