Bangaloreans were recently treated to some Western classical compositions by the India National Youth Orchestra

The ‘India National Youth Orchestra’ (INYO) presented a musical bonanza at Chowdiah Memorial Hall recently. It was a treat for Western classical music lovers, since pieces by well-known composers such as Mozart, Mendelssohn and Schubert were played.

It was an affair limited not only to the Bangaloreans but also to artistes from across India and Germany. The event was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the German embassy from New Delhi, in collaboration with the Bangalore School of Music to mark the 25th anniversary of the school.

Right from the beginning, the 85-member orchestra managed to capture the
attention of the audience with their smooth flowing tunes.

The young musicians from India and Germany joined together in a true spirit of sharing to present major works by Mozart, Franz Schubert and Felix Mendelssohn, which was conducted by renowned maestro Vijay Upadhyaya.

Among the works which were performed were Mozart’s ‘Symphony Number 48’, Mendelssohn’s ‘Midsummer Night Dream’ and Schubert’s ‘Overture’.  The orchestra comprised violins, trumpets and flutes, which went along with tabla to add an Indian touch.

The tone of the evening was set with a slow opening — a piece by Mozart, which eventually delighted those present.

The concert attracted quite a large crowd and the hall remained packed throughout the event.

The families of the artistes from various parts of the country had also come to witness the musical event.  It was a soulful and soothing treat for the audience to listen to the western classical music.

Praising the Indian artistes, the Consul General of Germany, Bangalore, Ingo Heinz Karsten, said that India is full of talented musicians and is world-famous in this regard.

“In India, one can find a lot of budding and established musicians. They must have a platform to promote their talent,” he said.

Jeevan M, an audience member, said, “One good thing about this concert is that the young  musicians are performing well and that too, pieces composed by world-famous composers. This is indeed a beautiful musical evening.”

Another audience member, Ankitha K S, said that she liked the way the members of the orchestra had performed and it was definitely an evening to remember. With Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn’s work being presented by young musicians, the evening indeed had to be a soothing and soulful one.
