Prez calls for strong education framework

A stronger education framework is essential for schools to train the youth for a progressive future, said President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at the 40th anniversary of Delhi Public School, RK Puram.

Patil emphasised the importance of holistic development and stressed upon the role of education in inculcating civic sense among the citizens. “Education prepares the population to lead prospective lives. Teachers need to interpret the information available on TV and internet to the youth in such a way that they are able to distinguish between the right and the wrong,” said Patil.

Delhi Public School, R K Puram was founded in 1972. The school has been declared as number one for the fourth consecutive year as per the Education World Day Schools Survey 2011.

Other eminent guests present at the event were Devisingh Shekhawat, Salman Khurshid, Minister of Law and Justice, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Admiral M M Chopra, Vice Chairman of the DPS Society.

Several former students of the school were conferred awards by the President. The awardees include Manavjeet Sandhu, ace shooter, Anjum Chopra, captain of the Indian women cricket team and Neha Agarwal, ace tennis player.

An exhibition of art, science and social science projects by the students were on display. A video presentation on  the Delhi Public School Society was also shown.
