BITSAT not in B'lore for CET candidates

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) has said that those students who will not be able to appear for its entrance exam for engineering courses due to clash of dates with the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), will be given an opportunity to write the exam but not in Bangalore.

With the KEA postponing the CET exam for admission to professional courses from May first week to the third week, about 82 students will not able to write the BITSAT on the date they have selected since they will have to appear for the CET on the same date. The KEA has forwarded the names of the students to BITS saying they should be allowed to write the exam on some other date.

The KEA officials said that it was up to the students to contact BITS for clarifications.  When contacted by Deccan Herald, Prof Sudeept Mohan, Associate Dean, Admissions, BITS Pilani, said students would be given an opportunity to appear for the entrance exam. But the exam centre will not be in Bangalore.

“In the first week of May, we will announce the rescheduled date for writing the BITSAT. The information will be hosted on our website. Students will have to write the exam in any of three places - Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa - where we have our campuses. The date which we are going to announce will not clash with any of the entrance exams. Probably, the rescheduled exam will be in the first week of June,” the Dean said.

Asked why BITS can’t reschedule the exam in Bangalore itself, he said the task requires lot of additional planning. “At least, BITS is giving an opportunity for students to write the exam by giving an alterantive date. The KEA is not even doing that,” he said.
