A construction worker was killed on the spot and two others sustained injuries when a sand-laden lorry rammed into a house in Kamakshipalya on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Krishnamurthy, 36, a resident of Sunkadakatte. A native of Mattighatta in Hirisave in Chennarayapattna, Murthy, married with two daughters, had come to Bangalore a few years ago.

Lorry driver Ameer and cleaner Ranganna, who sustained injuries, are absconding. The house, damaged in the accident, belonged to Raghu.

Umesh P, who claimed to be an eye witness told Deccan Herald that the lorry (KA 44 1509) reached Ramakrishnappa Layout where construction of a building is on for the past  few months.

“The cleaner got down from the vehicle to give directions to the driver to reach the construction site in Malgal. As the lorry approached a slope, it gained speed. While negotiating the bend, the driver lost control over the vehicle. Soon the lorry glided and rammed into the wall of the house.

Krishnamurthy, who was in the cabin, was crushed between the wall and the bonnet of the lorry and was killed on the spot. The driver and cleaner were rushed to the hospital,” he added. But the driver and the cleaner fled from the hospital, the police said.
The police interrogated lorry owner Chandrashekhar to ascertain the whereabouts of the driver and the cleaner.

Vithal Poojary, a resident said: “We all rushed the driver to the hospital but we could not pull Krishnamurthy out. The police brought a crane and after unloading sand, the lorry was evacuated. It took nearly two hours to lift the lorry,” he said.

Local residents have demanded the police not to allow heavy vehicles in the area.
