Belapu Gram Panchayat has taken up novel project to introduce automatic garbage machine to dispose the solid waste. Belapu is the first Gram Panchayat in 146 GPs of the district to introduce the garbage disposal machine.

The machine comprises of clean garbage and processing units that converts waste into manageable and reusable blocks. The emission free and environment-friendly machine enables segregation at the centre manually. The 8 ft long speed variable conveyer belt enables segregation of wastes. It requires low floor space and ensures reduction of waste volume by 60 to 70 per cent. It can successfully process 2 to 5 tonnes of waste per day. It is easily implemented within a limited space of 250 sq ft floor space area. The entire set up is built at the cost of Rs 6 lakhs.

The machine has been devised by two techies Nidhish Shetty and Abhiman H Shetty.

Abhiman said the machine has two different units for shredding and pressing. In the post segregation, the organic waste would be shredded to about 5 to 10 cms diameter. The shredded particles of organic waste have composition to discompose faster and can be used as organic manure. At the same time, dry waste can be fed into pressing unit. It can be crushed into 30 percent of its original size, he added.

Belapu GP President Deviprasad Shetty said Belapu has already received national award for its cleanliness drive. This automatic garbage machine will help the villagers to find solution for the disposal of wet and dry wastes, he said.
