DCCs in Bangalore get new presidents

Last Updated 05 May 2012, 18:54 IST

The newly elected District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents of Bangalore Urban and Bangalore City have quite a task on their hands, considering the problems faced by these two areas.

The Congress party office was in a celebratory mood with supporters of S T Somashekar and Dinesh Gundu Rao, appointed as presidents of Bangalore Urban and City, respectively, bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Dinesh Gundu Rao told Deccan Herald that he had to take stock of a few problems before activating the party machinery.

He said his primary aim was to make the local units active, apart from sorting out the differences of opinions among the party workers. “There is a lot of groupism and insecurity which needs to be resolved.

There are issues in three or four constituencies, which I am sure, we will tackle and gear ourselves for the elections,” he said adding that he would start with identifying committed workers and entrust them with responsibilities.

Bangalore City has 18 constituencies and 36 blocks; of them, committees have to be formed for four blocks.

Somashekar said his first exercise was to appoint presidents to two blocks. Of the 20 blocks in Bangalore Urban, 18 have presidents and committees had been formed for only ten blocks. After setting the structure in place, Somashekar said he will tour the entire constituency and then take up blockwise tour.

He hoped that he would be able to sort out the differences among the party workers, so that they could all work unitedly during the elections.
