Nepali girl reunited with mother

She went to become an actress, but turned into a trafficking victim

In a story straight out of a bollywood flick, a Nepali girl who was the victim of human trafficking on the pretext of offering a role in cinema, was reunited with her mother here on Monday.

Shanti Tamang is that minor girl who was reunited with her mother Sahil Tamang in the presence of the police and representatives of NGOs here.

Shanti Tamang belongs to a poverty ridden family. She was one among the five children of Siddang Tamang and Sahil Tamang couple.

Shanti aged 16 was forced to think of a job to add to the family purse. It was at that time she came in contact with few men from Bangladesh.

The strangers lured Shanti with the promise of offering a job in filmdom.

Shanti who was not willing to let go the chance, took a plunge only to land in India. She was one among the several girls who were rescued in a raid on a lodge in Periyapatna in the district recently.

Considering her age, she was handed over to Odanadi Seva Samsthe. During counselling, the girl expressed her willingness to join her mother.

Odanadi contacted Mytri Seva Sanste in Nepal. Sahil who was all elated to know about her missing daughter, came to Mysore. Joy knew no bounds for her when she saw her daughter.

Circle police inspector H S Gajendra Prasad, Parashuram of Odanadi, president of Child Welfare Committee, Venkatesh, members Nalini, Yashoda and Rangamani were present.
