Paolo Fresu Quintet to perform in the capital
Italian Jazz group to enthrall the city on May 14
One of the best Italian Jazz groups in Europe, Paolo Fresu Quintet, is set to perform in the City on the 14th. The group will be performing at Sirifort Auditorium.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Istituto Italiano Di Cultura (Italian Cultural Institute) in Chankayapuri, this event is being organized by Indian Council Of Cultural Relations in collaboration with the Italian embassy.
Paolo Fresu Quintet was formed in 1984 by Paolo Fresu and Roberto Cipelli and reached its present formation in 1985. The Quintet has the distinction of being one of the best Italian jazz groups in Europe.
In 1990 the prominent specialized magazine “Musica Jazz” judged the ‘Paolo Fresu Quintet’ as the best Italian Jazz performers. They were also awarded the Arrigo Polillo Prize for the best record "Live in Montpellier". Every subsequent year their own recording productions have been topping the charts.
As a soloist Paolo, has worked with Orchestras like ‘European Jazz Ensemble’ of Ali Aurand the ‘Orchestra of Chicago’ directed by Bill Russo, the French ‘Orchestre Nationale de Jazz / ONJ’, the German ‘NDR - Orchestra of the Radio of Hamburg’, the Italian ‘Instabile Orchestra’, the Swedish ‘Nohuslän Big Band’ directed by the pianist Lars Jansson, among others.
The ‘Orchestra Civica di Milano’ dedicated to him a retrospective in 2003 at the Piccolo Teatro of Milan. Considered one of the foremost Jazz musicians in Europe, Paolo Fresu has 2500 concerts to his credit across the globe and more than 280 records. He has won top honors and awards in Italy and in Europe. He has also won the prestigious French Award "Django d’Or" four times. Since 1988 he has been directing the International Festival “Time in Jazz” of Berchidda, a celebrated Festival for Jazz music in Europe.
Fresco has conducted many courses and Master Classes from USA to Australia, Israel, Madagascar and China. Since 1985 he has been teaching at International Seminars of "Siena Jazz" and has taught Jazz music in various specialization courses in Italy. Since the mid-Eighties he is always present on the highest positions of the ‘Top Jazz’ charts of the prominent magazine “Musica Jazz”, either as best musician, or as band leader, or with his own recordings.
