A class 10 student was attacked with a paper cutter by his classmate at a school in central Delhi on Wednesday, police said.

The victim, 16, lives in west Patel Nagar, while the boy who attacked stays at Model Town.

“Authorities of Bal Bharti Public School in Pusa Road had taken the victim to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Old Rajender Nagar after the incident was reported around 8:15 am. However, no case has been registered,” a police official said.

A doctor at the hospital said the victim is undergoing treatment for six cuts on his left hand.

“We are confident that the boy would be in a fairly good condition after a minor operation,” the doctor said.

The attacker’s mother claims that her son told her that the injured boy had commented on his sister, which made him angry.

“He is regretful of what he did and has apologised to the victim’s family. We took him back home after he gave a statement to police,” she said.

But the victim’s family members claim that he might have been attacked over a photograph posted on a social networking website.

“The picture was of the injured boy and a female classmate. It had been cropped out of a group photograph of the class. When it was posted on a social networking website, some children posted offensive comments,” a family member said.

The victim’s family has also claimed that the attacker had sent a threatening text message to the victim on Sunday.

The message read, “I will attack you with a cutter on Wednesday”. But the victim casually deleted it without informing his parents. However, he did disclose it to a close friend.
