27 students of Super-30 crack IIT-JEE

Abhay Kumar, Patna, May 18, 2012, DHNS:

On cloud nine

Till a few years back, Diwakar, 18, used to sleep in front of a stall in Bihar’s Munger district, as he had no house to stay.

Ayush and Aditya, both 19 years old, had to once discontinue their studies (temporarily) after their names were struck off from their respective schools for non-payment of fees.

On Friday, all the three had big smile on their faces as they were among the 27 students from weaker sections studying at Super-30, who cracked the prestigious IIT-JEE.

The 27 students, which included two girls, had assembled in Patna’s Mithapur locality to thank their stars and ‘Anand Sir’, the maths wizard, who, year after year, had been grooming students from underprivileged families free of cost and helping them crack the IIT-JEE.

The list of successful candidates include sons/daughters of vendors, truck mechanic, marginal farmer, daily-wage labourer, etc. “My father is a security guard in Kolkata.

As I shared the news with him, he was extremely happy, though he does not quite understand what it would mean,” said Biswajit Bahera.

“Anand Sir not only taught maths but he also kept motivating us. He helped us realise our strengths and overcome weaknesses,” he said.

Sumit Kumar Gupta was on cloud nine after seeing his result. His father had a grocery shop, but with the meager income Sumit could have never been able to continue with his studies. Until he came to know about Super 30 through a newspaper. “Luckily I made it to Super-30 and that changed the course of my life.

No fees, quality teaching and hard work yielded the desired result,” said Sumit.

“At Super 30, it is only the education that matters. We sit, eat and sleep together solving problems. A healthy competition amongst us sharpens our thinking ability,” said Shailesh whose father is a farmer.

Diwakar is son of a truck mechanic and hails from Munger. When he informed his father that he had cleared IIT, he blessed Anand first.

Ayush Tiwari’s father is a casual labourer. “He was overwhelmed when I told him that I had qualified IIT-JEE. I could remember how he was disappointed when my name was struck down from the school register twice, as he could not pay my fee,” he said.

Anand, who was overwhelmed with their success, thanked God for being kind to him.

“This is the tenth consecutive year where my team and students have achieved this remarkable feat,” he told Deccan Herald on Friday.

Film director Anurag Basu is planning a movie on the life of Anand.
